Article: Language course for EWC members
Joint training for 26 members of the European Works Council from 12 different countries
As agreed at the EWC meeting last October, the office of the European Works Council organised a joint English course for members of the EWC in York, United Kingdom. The aim of this measure was to improve EWC members’ language skills to facilitate communication among them. One positive side-effect consisted in working together closely for a period of one or two weeks, which gave participants an opportunity to get to know each other better. They were able to share their views and opinions about a number of topics, including the structures of the various companies in the DB Group and the workforce representation bodies. There were also extensive discussions about the new structure of the EWC and the future work content of the body.Â
Based on their experiences with the course, the participants felt that regular language courses should become an established feature.
